Joe Deras-Espinoza (23) currently lives in the Mile High City. A son of immigrant working class parents, Joe was raised in Denver, Co. In 2013 he graduated from Metropolitan State University of Denver with a bachelors degree in Nutrition and Dietetics. In the Summer of 2013 he had the privilege to live and work in Immokalee, FL as an intern of the Coalition of Immokalee Workers partner organization, Just Harvest (now the Alliance for Fair Food). As of early 2014, he has been organizing with the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades working together with Denver area painters as the struggle for dignity in the work place. He is also actively involved with local community organizations working on issues of race. He looks forward to amplifying the voices of students as they stand in solidarity with farmworkers. Joe is also a member of Denver Fair Food and is a third-year Steering Committee member.
