ACTION ALERT: Join Fair Food Nation in demanding "No More Frosty Hearts" from university leaders doing business with Wendy's by sending Valentines by Feb. 15!

During the next few days, people across the country will prepare to celebrate Valentine's Day by sharing in the promise of love and unity with friends and family. As storefronts and online feeds begin filling with hearts and flowers, the Fair Food Nation will begin making special plans of its own... to mobilize our campuses and communities for the CIW's 4 for Fair Food Tour set for March 2-14!

Time and again, year after year, students and youth across the country have asked Wendy’s to “be ours” and make a real commitment to farmworker justice. Since the launch of the national boycott in 2016, the SFA network has called it quits with Wendy’s through a collection of creative breakup videos, rehearsed engagement and marriage scenes in local restaurants from coast to coast.

In December, news broke that from March 2-14, farmworkers from Immokalee will be embarking on a national tour to four of the country’s major state universities – the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Ohio State University in Columbus, and the University of Florida in Gainesville –  to join students and community members to call on these flagship institutions to end their relationships with Wendy’s until the fast-food giant joins the award-winning Fair Food Program. Young people, community leaders, and farmworkers are demanding that, instead of cheap “4 for $4” deals, Wendy’s put human rights on the menu.

This Valentine’s Day weekend, leading up to the CIW’s “4 for Fair Food Tour”, we’re calling on students to mail valentines to the leaders of the four universities featured on the tour by Friday, Feb. 15, demanding that they thaw out their frosty hearts and end business ties with Wendy’s. We encourage you to pair your creative Valentine mailing with a social media post to amplify your support for the Wendy’s Boycott and swiftly growing student-led movement to “Boot the Braids” from campus!

In this guide, you’ll find sample language to put together a Valentine and optional letter, Valentine templates, and information about where and how to mail your Valentines. Join us in sending a wave of Fair Food love to warm these university leaders’ stone-cold hearts by Friday, Feb. 15 — all in the lead up to the tour!

♥ Host a letter-writing party

Invite members of your Student/Farmworker Alliance as well as local allies.

♥ Develop the content of your Valentine’s Day card

Use short and direct phrases to get the message across in a clear and powerful way. Remember to be creative, give your message a Valentine’s twist, and address the card to the university’s president!

♥ Decorate your Valentine

You can use traditional themes or adapt them to illustrate Wendy’s disdain for the human rights of

farmworkers (ex: broken hearts). Consider incorporating university colors, logos, mascots, etc.

♥ Write an accompanying letter

If you choose to write an accompanying letter, make the case for why Wendy’s shouldn’t be on campus. Be sure to use information from the CIW/AFF websites or draw from your own personal experience.

♥ Send & Share!

When your card is ready, snap a picture and share the image to your social media accounts, making sure to tag @Wendys as well as the University and include the #BoycottWendys and #BootTheBraids hashtags. Then, mail your Valentine and optional letter to the corresponding university’s address:
